FAQs
Why train in a SCITT?
When you train in a SCITT you focus on learning through experience. You will spend the vast majority of your time within a school setting to be immersed in the environment as you train, supported by mentors. You will have two contrasting placements and see first-hand the differences between them, giving you a great opportunity to broaden your experience and ability to teach in different teaching environments.
What qualification do I get?
You will achieve qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the legal requirement to teach in state schools, and a PGCE awarded by Nottingham University.
Do I need to get school experience?
Although prior school experience is not an essential requirement, it helps you to understand what the job involves and to find out what it is really like to be a teacher, so we actively encourage prospective applicants to gain school experience. Please see the Get school Experience Page on our website to see how we can help you arrange this. If you are an undergraduate studying an MFL or STEM subject, please check out our paid internship opportunities here.
I am currently an international student studying in the UK. Can I apply for teacher training?
SWIFT Teacher Training do not sponsor student visas. However, if you are already an international student in the UK, you can apply for a graduate visa on successful completion of your degree. Other useful information for international applicants can be found on the Get into Teaching website here.
Are the courses full or part time?
We currently offer full time courses.
When can I apply?
Applications open in October each year. All applications are through the DfE application portal - Apply
