We prioritise your well-being

Your teacher training year will be very rewarding but also demanding and challenging at times. To help you achieve a good work life balance SWIFT Teacher Training supports your wellbeing from the very first day.

During the whole year

  • You will be allocated and have access to a campus team who will support you on your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) journey.
  • There are termly, 1:1 professional conversations that check-in on your well-being. If you are having challenges, we will work with you to offer support so that you find a good work life balance.
  • Each campus team has at least one member of staff who is a Mental Health First Aider.
  • Our team have engaged in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.
  • Weekly newsletters will keep you informed of key dates and deadlines, helping you with your organisation. A regular well-being article will signpost you towards strategies and ideas.

During your Provider-led training weeks

  • Independent study tasks, outside of the provider-led training days, are streamlined to enable you to focus on PGCE assignments and work life balance.
  • Study time is built into some days, to enable you to pause, reflect and network with other trainees. For example, there are some early finishes and the occasional late start where appropriate.
  • There is a blended approach to delivery each week with sessions being hosted online or face to face. For most general pedagogy sessions there is usually a choice of two locations.
  • Well-being sessions form an important part of our curriculum. We will provide practical advice and strategies to help you manage your well-being and organisation.

During school placements

  • You will have an experienced and trained in-school mentor who will have received bespoke training aimed at supporting your well-being,
  • Timetables will be carefully designed to ensure in-school experiences are seamlessly coherent with the training curriculum, with opportunities for purposeful practice of the key concepts and high-quality feedback.
  • We will, wherever possible, place you in a school within reasonable travelling distance from your home, taking into account your personal circumstances.
