Mission: Every class led by a great teacher

Get education right, and the odds of children living healthy, happy and rewarding lives increases. Yet too many children do not have access to a great education, especially if they are from poorer backgrounds. Our mission is to ensure that new teachers entering the profession have the expertise to transform the lives of children and their communities.

Course and PGCE Aims

Our overall aim is to enable trainees to make the strongest possible start that leads to ever-deepening expertise across their career. Specifically, we want all trainees to:

  • Develop a high level of expertise in phase and subject(s).
  • Experience evidence-based training that brings together theory and practice.
  • Engage in critical analysis of research through our PGCE.
  • Belong to close-knit, supportive training communities.
  • Prioritise approaches to teaching that are inclusive of pupils with SEND and EAL.
  • Develop agency to bring about a fairer education for all pupils.
  • Be effectively prepared for the next phase of their career, including how to lead a good worklife balance.

Environmental Commitment

Sustainability in Education with SWIFT Teacher Training

At SWIFT Teacher Training, we are dedicated to fostering a sustainable future through our educational practices and community initiatives. As we move forward, we commit to enhancing our waste reduction efforts by continuously improving our digital documentation processes to further minimise paper use. We will also expand our policy of printing resources only when absolutely necessary to reduce waste.

Promoting sustainable transportation is another key focus for us. We will increase our efforts to encourage the use of public transport among trainees and staff, and strive to ensure that all placements are within reasonable travelling distances to minimise our environmental impact.

Advancing our sustainable curriculum and conferences is crucial to our mission. We will deepen the integration of sustainability topics into our curriculum to better educate future teachers about environmental issues.

Additionally, we will expand our annual climate change and sustainability conference, with a continued focus on the
South West, to include more experts, trainees, and community members. Through this conference and other initiatives, we will encourage greater participation in local sustainability efforts.

Furthermore, we will increase the number of online sessions to further reduce travel and associated carbon emissions.

By committing to these actions, SWIFT Teacher Training aims to lead by example and inspire our trainees to become champions of sustainability in their future educational careers. Together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and create a greener, more sustainable world.

What we do:

Sustainable Curriculum and Conferences:
  • Hosting a one-day climate change and sustainability conference with a particular focus on the South West. This event brings together experts, SWIFT Trainees, and community members to discuss and promote sustainable practices and solutions.
  • Through the conference encouraging SWIFT trainees and staff to participate in local sustainability efforts.
  • Working towards integrating sustainability topics into the curriculum to educate students about environmental issues.
  • Delivering sessions online to reduce travel and associated carbon emissions.

Waste Reduction:
  • Implementing digital documentation to minimise paper use.
  • Printing resources only when requested to reduce paper waste.

Sustainable Transportation:
  • Encouraging the use of public transport.
  • Ensuring placements are within a reasonable traveling distance, wherever possible, to minimise environmental impact.
  • Offering several delivery routes within our Hub area to reduce travel.
