Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
We are pleased to be working in partnership with Bath Spa University who will provide the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from September 2026.
This qualification works hand-in-hand with training for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and is a critical part of the course, as schools see the PGCE element of the programme as evidence of an ability to evaluate and reflect on research and practice.
Bath Spa University’s SCITT PGCE has been designed, so that it complements the training programme of SWIFT Teacher Training.
The PGCE element will be taught in Devon by University experts.

Course Structure
Bath Spa University’s School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) PGCE provides structured opportunities to explore what research says about the classroom, school settings and the educational system as a whole.
It is designed to makes trainees pause, think, analyse, explore, reflect and question.
The SCITT PGCE is made up of 60 Level 7 Masters credits.
Two assignments are completed, which extend trainees’ understanding of key aspects of education and will involve some in-depth analysis of professional practice, so that the ideas encountered have a direct impact on practice as developing teachers.
As this is a professional qualification, successful completion of the award requires trainees to pass both assignments and achieve QTS through the SCITT.
