Our Approach to Inclusion, Support and Wellbeing

At SWIFT Teacher Training, Inclusion, Support and Wellbeing are inseparable foundations of our provision, ensuring that every trainee is respected, supported through challenge, and able to thrive personally and professionally within a fair, responsive and caring training environment.

What this means for our trainee teachers

You will be treated with fairness, respect and dignity and trained in an environment where inclusion and belonging are actively promoted.

  • If you face barriers to your training, you can disclose these at any point and work with us to agree reasonable adjustments and personalised support.
  • If you experience challenge or fall behind, you will receive early, structured support that is designed to help you succeed, not penalise you.
  • You will have a clear team around you – including Mentors and SWIFT staff – who communicate openly and work collaboratively in your best interests.
  • Your wellbeing matters: workload, communication and expectations are designed to be manageable, and support is available if you are struggling.
  • You will always know what support is in place, why it is in place, and what the next steps are, so you can focus on developing as a confident and effective teacher.

Trainee Inclusion

Inclusive practice
SWIFT Teacher Training is committed to inclusive practice that removes barriers to success and ensures all trainees can make secure progress through high‑quality initial teacher training.

Our approach recognises that trainees may experience barriers linked to Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities (SEND), Protected Characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, mental health needs, or contextual factors such as rural or coastal isolation.
Trainee Inclusion Plans
We actively encourage disclosure at all stages of recruitment and training and work collaboratively with trainees to create Trainee Inclusion Plans that identify barriers and put in place appropriate, reasonable adjustments.

Trainee Inclusion Plans are personalised, regularly reviewed, and shared (with trainee consent) with relevant partners to ensure consistent support across provider‑led training and school placements.
inclusive environment
Inclusion at SWIFT is underpinned by strong Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) principles, a culture of psychological safety and belonging, and a clear expectation that bullying, harassment, discrimination or victimisation are not tolerated.

Our aim is not only to meet statutory responsibilities, but to create an environment in which all trainees can be their authentic selves and succeed as teachers who model the values of an inclusive society.

Trainee Support

Trainee Support Policy
SWIFT’s Trainee Support Policy is designed to identify challenges early and to provide timely, tailored and proportionate support that helps trainees overcome difficulties and stay on track with their training.  Support is developmental and focused on learning, progress, attendance or confidence, and is distinct from more formal intervention processes.
team around the trainee
We use a "team around the trainee" approach, placing the trainee at the centre of a clear and collaborative support structure involving mentors, Campus Leads and Phase Leads. Together, this team develops structured Trainee Support Plans, with clear targets, agreed strategies and regular review points.
support
Support is deliberately flexible and responsive, recognising that challenges may be temporary and situational. Trainees are actively involved at every stage, ensuring transparency, shared ownership and clarity. Where progress is secured, support is stepped down; where challenges persist, next steps are clearly communicated so that trainees always understand how they are being supported and why.

Trainee Wellbeing

wellbeing environment
Wellbeing at SWIFT Teacher Training is central to how we work and learn together.
We are committed to fostering a positive, respectful and sustainable training environment that promotes good mental health and supports trainees and staff to manage workload, pressure and competing demands.
wellbeing policy
Our Wellbeing Policy sets clear expectations around respectful working practices, communication, workload consideration and access to support. Trainees are encouraged to raise concerns early, seek help when needed, and look after their own wellbeing, while knowing that mentors, Campus Leads and the wider SWIFT team are available to provide support and signposting.
